HDR
I took these photos while away in California for spring break using the HDR features on my iPhone, I then used snapseed and added the HDR filter to get a intense effect. Over all I think that the HDR filter on snapped is a little to grainy and intense for these particular images. If I were to do this again id adjust the filter so that it wasn't as strong. I would also take more pictures of landscape, as these shots were just quick experimental ones I took.
Ansestory
When we got assigned this ancestry assignment, my only blood relative (my dad) was away visiting his parents in Cape breton Nova Scotia. This cut off many of my ideas that I wanted to do, but thanks to modern technology I was able to Face Time my dad and get a photo of him, his mother, and me all together. Because of having my family thousands of kilometres away from me, getting an actual nice photo of them would have been close to impossible, so I tried to work with what I had and I created this shot. Even though it looks like its staged, this was taken when we were all mid-laughing at something. This photo is able to capture my ancestry because even though my family is on the other side of the continent, we still make time to call each other and laugh together as if we are face to face.

Where I live
For me, when I was told about this assignment I instantly thought of my house. Even though I live in Vancouver, my house has a special place in my heart. My mom was an architect and one of her biggest goals was to design her very own dream house. We were lucky enough to be able to move into her dream house in 2008, and ever since I have had a deep connection to my house. Unfortunately my mom passed away 1 year after moving in, and ever since this house has been a constant memory of her. This house was made for my family and because of this, to me there is no question about where I live. It may be a cliche that I chose my house, but to me It isn't just a house, its filled with memories and love, and it will be forever where I call home.
Sun shine
As we get closer and closer to Christmas its been very difficult to take photos with the sun, but fortunately I was able to go up to the top of the Brattish Properties to take some photos of the sunset. I was able to capture the sun rays very well considering I was shooting with my iPhone. I Propped my phone up on a ledge by where we parked and put my phone on a self timer, and I was able to take a shot that outlined my silhouette pretty well. Trying to take a photo of my self indoors with just my phone was very difficult and I am not super impressed with how the photo turned out, next time I would spend longer trying to find good lighting for better results. Some challenges I faced while takeing these photos were how cold it was outside. It was 2 degrees while I was taking photos of the sunset and I was not prepared for the harsh weather ( I was just wearing my uniform). Next time I would be more prepared clothing wise for the cold, so then I could spend more time perfecting the shot. Overall I like how the two photos of the sunset turned out but I should be more prepared for the conditions next time.
Small human, big world
I found it very difficult during this assignment to capture a image that was able to illustrate how small we are in this massive world. Because it was extremely cold outside while taking these photos, I experienced some challenges because my camera was freezing so I had to act quickly. I am not very happy with how 2 of these images turned out (the one with the road and the one with the city) and I think next time to improve I would spend more time fiddling with the camera to get everything perfect, and maybe prepare for the outdoor conditions more. Overall this assignment doesn't reflect my best work, but was in fact a great learning experience.
Subject of my choice : mountains & water
This weekend for the first time I took the new sea to sky gondola in Squamish. Once I reached the top it was very cold, but the beautiful view was worth every shiver. I photographed this particular setting because I loved how the Ice blue water contrasted so well with the dark green trees. Photographed on my phone.
Rain
I really enjoyed this assignment, because I found it really fun to take photos of rain droplets. I used a manual focus in these shots to help show and define the droplets more. Unfortunalty I couldn't find a puddle to photograph for this assignment.
What fall means to me
To me, fall is all about the change from summer to winter. Since my favourite season is winter, fall is the season that preps everything for the cold winter. I think that the biggest representation of fall is all the leafs that have changed colour and have fallen. In these photos I tried to capture the bright and dark leafs of fall.

Avoiding the cliche
In these photos of my dog Piper, I tried to take photos of what I think a cliche shot of a dog playing fetch would be. I then tried to get a better photo of my actual dog as the non-cliche photo. I think I was somewhat successful, because I was trying to figure out my camera at home and shooting manual. The photos didn't turn out exactly how I wanted them too but I'm still happy with how they came out. It was very hard to try to get my dog to look at the camera and to try and get an action shot of him fetching, this project took patience but was defiantly a lot of fun and worth it.
Symmetric and Asymmetric photos
For this assignment I just took pictures of some decorations on a shelf at Tatiana's house. I moved the objects around and I tried using different angles. The first photo I took has the objects in the dead center of the photo, and the centre has them off to the side. I think that the 2nd photo is more interesting to look at, because of the objects not being straight in front of you.
artist inspired photograph
My Artist who inspired my photo was Martin Stranka. His photos are very unique and difficult to replicate without a certain model/background. His photographs are ofter very creepy, and omniscient and usually have a yellow/brown tint to them. I tried to recreate his style by going into a dark empty space and have taylor sit upright. I think that the shadows that are casted add more dimension to the photograph. Over all it was difficult and challenging to replicate his style, but I gave it my best shot.
6 Snap Shots
These "bad" photos are inspired by my grade 7 Instagram posts. Looking back now I realize how truly terrible my posts were.
Summer in 6
The theme of my "Summer in 6" Is summer memories. Spent most my summer in France with friends laughing all the time. I think these photos represent my summer of travelling and being with my friends.

1. Comment on 3 elements of design you see in this photo(1)
-Good positioning of the people
-focus point is good
-good lighting
2. What is Frank Rich’s take on what is happening in the photo? Do you agree with his analysis? Explain(2)
Frank Rich believes that in this photo the people are just 'American', meaning that they had already moved on. I do agree with this statement, I feel that many people are quick to judge these people in the photo, but after all they are taught by American society to always move forward.
3. Walter Sipser, one of people in the photo, argues that he was misrepresented by the photo. In your opinion, is it important that we, the viewer, understand the whole story before we properly view and criticize a photograph? Explain.(2)
In my opinion, it isn't important that we as the viewer know the whole story to properly criticize a photograph. Apart of art is being able to form your own opinions and see things differently than anyone else does, and to do this you shouldn't need a back story to analyze a photo.
4. Why is this photo is considered to be one of the most artistic photos taken of the 9/11 tragedy. Do you agree that it is a brilliant photograph? Explain in a short paragraph response. this answer is worth 5 marks. (5)
I agree that this is a brilliant photograph because it captures 9/11 like no other photo has. This photograph is considered to be one of the most artistic photos taken of 9/11 because behind the smiling young group of people are these clouds of smoke. Most photos from 9/11 are tragic photos of the buildings on fire, people jumping out of the buildings, and of the devastating outcomes of the attack, but this photo is of people smiling while the clouds of smoke rise to the sky. For many this photo would be rude and disrespectful to the many who died in the attacks, but what many people don't see is how this photo shows overcoming obstacles more than pretending like the attack didn't happen.
